Last year was brutal - my family in Tampa took on a lot of damage - & I'll never forget those tornados FL had with Milton. I can take a lot, but not the capricious of tornados. Helpless feeling.
And I can't imagine the back-to-backness of two-in-two. Emotionally exhausting, and that's just one aspect of the whole picture.
I'm just down in Punta Gorda, With Helene I had no damage but there were 4 tornado warnings in a short time all of them within 1/4 to 2 miles away. In the middle of the night when you can't see anything it was suer scary.
With Milton the winds didn't bother me but when it all went still somewhere around 2 am I think I looked out the door and saw water everywhere and just over the first step to my house. We had never had flooding before though we are just out of the red zone. Yeah was under mandatory evacuation but my car got totaled the day before so had no way to get myself, my cats and my valuables out of the area so stayed home. I was worried about the water but couldn't do anything so went back to watching storm coverage on the internet (still floors me that it never went out).
The water went down about an hour or less later, not sure but it ruined my central air and flooded the ducts. Also ruined my clothes washer which was at ground level in an attached shed.
It was an interesting experience to go through them and it was definitely emotionally exhausting, though the nearby tornado warnings were the worst. I don't think I would sit through a Cat 5, not sure about another Cat 4 but probably won't leave for less.
Yeah - leaving for a hurricane is NOT something I ever want to do again. (I've evacuated twice - Rita (22 agonizing hot iffy hours from Houston to San Antonio) & post-Beryl (rode it out but then electricity was gone for weeks).
Let's hope we all get a break this year π΄ππ΄
(& hope it stays away from Tx too π)
I think we are all tired of them hitting us. I got 2 last year in 2 weeks. Some of my neighbors decided to move north after that.
